Marginal Risk of Severe Weather Wednesday 07/03 for Attractions Area

SPC Marginal Risk

The Storm Prediction Center says there’s a marginal risk of severe weather in Central Florida on Wednesday. The designation of “Marginal” is risk level 1 of 5 on the threat scale. The risk area covers the majority of the Florida peninsula.

As always, the overall risk is derived from a combination of three factors… hail, wind, and tornado risk. However in this case, the designation is based solely on the risk for damaging wind, with about a 5%-14% chance of damaging wind from the storms. The tornado risk is less than 2% and the hail risk is less than 5%… both of which are below the threshold to trigger any type of categorical convective outlook (fancy talk for severe storm risk).

So it’s a day to be weather aware, but in truth you’re going to find a much bigger direct risk to your health in the Heat Index today (with it feeling as hot as 110 degrees once the humidity is factored in) than in severe storms.
