5AM Saturday: Track Shifts East Again, but Central Florida Still in the Cone. Prepare, but don’t Panic.

The 5AM update from the National Hurricane Center continues to show a trend that might help keep the worst of Dorian offshore. However the NHC cautions that a good portion of the state still remains within the cone of uncertainty and that impacts are still possible. Hurricane watches are still possible for parts of Florida today.

The NHC notes that the long term forecast remains problematic because of the expected slowdown of the storm as it approaches. Remember, don’t just focus on the icons. The cone represents the margin of error in the forecast, and even it represents where the storm will go about 66% of the time. It is prudent to continue preparations, but we have a little more reason for hope this morning that we may avoid the worst of it.

Keep calm and carry on. Next track at 11AM.
