Sunday brought some of the chilliest weather Orlando has seen in months, breaking an unusual record and causing the Attractions area’s water parks to close for the weekend.
Sunday’s high temperature at Orlando International Airport was 57 degrees. That’s nowhere near the record high (89 degrees in 1957), but it does go down as the coldest high temperature for any November 17th since Orlando began keeping records in 1892. The previous record cold high temperature for a November 17th was 58 degrees in the year 1901.
As an aside, the record low for November 17th (36 degrees) was set that same day 118 years ago. But our observed low temperature Sunday of 50 degrees was far warmer, so that 1901 record lives to see another year.
The weekend weather was cool enough to affect Central Florida’s water parks. SeaWorld’s Aquatica was closed Saturday and Sunday, as were Universal’s Volcano Bay, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, and Margaritaville’s Island H2O Live. Most of the parks are expected to reopen on Monday, though Blizzard Beach’s refurbishment continues as scheduled and Island H2O Live is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during this time of year. As for the weather that prompted the closures, relatively cool temperatures are expected to continue for the majority of the upcoming week, with lows in the 50s but highs nudging back into the 70s.
